Other than the fact that it always--[b][i][u]ALWAYS[/u][/i][/b]--sucks all the productive marrow out of a society and decays into cannibalism/tyranny, nothing.

Socialism is neofeudalism in modern drag. It can only thrive in a climate of complete ignorance of language and history. Socialism is predicated/promulgated on systematized envy, and it produces only two classes of people; the impoverished/miserable and an elite caste.

@Theseus So, then add a caveat to it. Some type of legislature that dictates if you don't wish to use a specific program, like publicly funded healthcare, you're not required to pay into it with taxation, but you have to officially sign off on it or something.

@BlueMetalChick Works for me! If we must adopt a politico-economic system that punishes initiative and rewards mediocrity, I'd settle for the form you suggest. In fact, as a libertarian, I'm a big believer in user fees.
