It's because those who died to the Spanish flu didn't really die for some greater purpose. They just got unlucky and died. Although I do agree that the Spanish flu outbreak shouldn't be forgotten, for it did take many lives.

Flu vaccines have been created.
As far as I know, there has been no attempt to create a war vaccine, so there's that...🤔

@Myzery with all those anti vaccine folks around some more media presence migt be helpful

@Strawberrry I don't think that is going to change their minds. I mean, polio doesn't scare them, why would the flu?

Although the Spanish flu was horrific and a world rocking event, we don't commemorate or honor the victims because they did not choose their deaths nor the circumstances of their deaths. It just happened to them, as death happens to everyone.
Soldiers who give their lives fighting in wars often exhibit great bravery and great honor. Most of them chose to serve. We remember them because we have set aside a special day, Veterans Day, to honor their sacrifice. We do not have "Spanish Flu" day.

Don't think people who fight for country got the same meaning with the people who die because of a disease. Heart diseases kill millions every year, so we start remembrance day for that too.
Strawberrry · F
@SW-User actually we shoudld.. its all about raising awareness how awful war is or a disease
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
Then the whole world war what?
Strawberrry · F
@NankerPhelge the great war
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@Strawberrry Yes, but what about it? You didn't finish your sentence. Your post says "There has been a lot of remembrance over WW1... but there is almost no coverage on the Spanish flu pandemic that killed more people in 1 year then the whole world war". At least I'm assuming that's what it was supposed to say.

A remembrance day for flu victims???????
MethDozer · M
@Strawberrry That may be, but that just seems odd and silly to me to be honest.
Strawberrry · F
@MethDozer why ? raising awareness about the atrocities of war.. and raising awareness about the horrors of disease seem similar
MethDozer · M
@Strawberrry Ugh, I guess in my mind the idea or war memorial days is to remmeber those who sacrificed and also to remember the folly of man that led to war. War is something we create but illness is just something that happened Plus people seem pretty aware of the flu and not sure if awareness is what it is about.
Interesting take though.
