What's more important for a successful career in a subject, marks or mastery?

Are they mutually exclusive?

These days a lot of jobs want a Bachelors degree just to get an interview.. So if you don't have those marks you don't even get to the starting gate

I suppose, Yes.. But different. Marks are your ticket of entry to the game. Mastery is how you play when you get on the court. I should specify this is for white collar work. If you have a trade then there is no substitute to learning to think with your fingers as an apprentice.@Dobsdobs
