How do you work this out?

The amount of hay in a barn will feed 40 cows for 12 weeks.

For how many weeks could you feed 15 cows with the same amount of hay?

(40*12)/15

If each cow eats 1 hay unit/week, you have 40*12=480 hay units. So if you divide split those 480 hay units between 15 cows. (480/15) you get the answer.
