How do you work this out?

The amount of hay in a barn will feed 40 cows for 12 weeks.

For how many weeks could you feed 15 cows with the same amount of hay?

It's simple..

(40*12)/15

32

@marcusaurelius It's an online practice quiz and the answer is 36. I don't know how to work it out though.

@summerlove if a cow eats 'x' amount of hay per week.

Then total hay = 40 × 12 × X

On the other side, total hay is constant.. so,

480x = 15× x × y

Y (total no of weeks) = 480/15 = 32

@marcusaurelius can you explain why you divided the whole thing by 15 please
@SW-User total hay is constant ..

Which means number of cows × number of weeks is constant
