Why is Arkansas pronounced `Arkansaw`? Conversely, why isn`t it spelled `Arkansaw` if they want to pronounce it that way?

@Rokasu Kansas is also in `Murica` but that isn`t pronounced `Kansaw`, is it?

@DaveLister I mean. Illinois is pronounced illeenouiy. Louisville is pronounced lu-ei-vul.
