Musk Spreading Russian Propaganda

Apparently there is some false information going around on the internet. Strange, I know. But here is an evidence based clip which explains why the rubbish spreading about USAID and celebrities is false.

I'm hoping that viewers outside the UK will be directed to the .com version.

BBC was getting funding from USAID. Do try harder to get better sources.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 The BBC UK and News divisions are entirely supported by British money and commercial sales. The USAID money went to a charity supporting local independent news outlets. The USAID money has no influence on the broadcast material. It's safe for you to watch without being worried about being brainwashed.

@FreddieUK I don't think joe needs to worry about being brainwashed...

@SpudMuffin If you haven't been paying attention it was announced that many media outlets have been receiving USAID (AKA CIA) money including the BBC. That is why they so slavishly follow the party line. You are likely way too young to remember the once upon a time there was a thing called BBC World Service on shortwave radio. It was brilliant in how it went out of its way to be neutral on every subject they covered. In the years since then I can't watch BBC because its coverage is so biased. The same bias you see in Fox News which I also avoid for the same reason except polar opposite view points. I have no idea who is paying Fox for their biases but I do know who is paying BBC for their biases.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 Well, at least you try to be balanced, which is more than some commentators do.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@FreddieUK If I know the bias I can often counter it. However I need facts more than opinion. The facts are that the BBC through its many branches has been getting funding from USAID. I don't have a dollar figure if only because I don't know how accurate such a number would be but regardless the BBC is part of the propaganda arm of the CIA/Deep State. That is why they were in lock step over the COVID scam. All the major news sources were spouting exactly almost word for word the same line and people who only listened to those outlets were conned into doing great harm to themselves. I have nothing but pity for those who were conned but I would hope that it would serve as a lesson to not trust all the media when they all say the same thing. It was not many years ago that USAID was Enemy Number One to those on the left and nothing but sunshine and rainbows to those on the right. Suddenly when some long over due rationalisation of USAID comes about the faves/villains switch. Hmmmm.

@hippyjoe1955 I know you won't want to look up the BBC Media Action statement, so let me make it easy for you:

A free press is essential to freedom and democracy – and 75% of countries around the world do not have a free press. BBC Media Action supports local media around the world to deliver trusted information to people most in need.

Like many international development organisations, BBC Media Action has been affected by the temporary pause in US government funding, which amounts to about 8% of our income in 2023-24. We’re doing everything we can to minimise the impact on our partners and the people we serve.

As the BBC’s international charity, we are completely separate from BBC News, and wholly reliant on our donors and supporters to carry out our work.

@FreddieUK The BBC is not free press. You said yourself it is paid for by the British government. That is the definition of a captured press. Nice of you to copy and paste though.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 It is NOT paid for by the British government, It is paid for by a Licence fee paid (or at least supposed to be paid) by anyone who watches live TV in the UK. It is enforced by legal penalties, for better or worse. it is common for the government of the day to have regular rows with them over their coverage of their policies.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@FreddieUK It is paid for by the British government who levies the licensing fee. Please try to use your head for more than an ear spacer.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 No. You are now telling me about the process in my own country. Listen carefully. The Licence fee is collected by a separate organisation called (imaginatively) TV Licencing. There used to be a government grant for the World Service but that was ended years ago. If TV Licensing doesn't collect the money the government does not fill the gap.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@FreddieUK I am telling you the facts on the ground. Government funding of any media immediately brings into question the media's reliability. I live in Canada. We have the CBC. Does anyone think that it is unbiased because it is government funded? I certainly don't. The BBC is not without bias. For some reason that bias is the same bias as expressed by the government. Hmmmmm.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 And I'm repeating the government don't fund the BBC. See above.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@FreddieUK Yeah it does. Maybe you have a logic problem. Whether it is income tax or licensing fees or sales tax or road tax it doesn't matter. It is still filtered through the government. Only the dullards can't grasp that concept.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@FreddieUK Oh and according to government sources here in Canada - Global Affairs Canada sponsored the BBC to the tune of 1.7 Million dollars as well. Not nearly as much as USAID did but nevertheless just one more reason that the Canadian took down the Global Affairs website yesterday. Can't have the plebes knowing where their tax money is going.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@FreddieUK money never exerts influence. To think so would be crazy. Lol
