It's literally just a right wing talking point and myth that's only reverberated in the right wing press and the conservative party. It was so pathetic hearing Braverman and Truss talk about being "anti-woke" when the country needs fixing, not focusing on some fictional culture war someone read about in the Murdoch press.
It's like the people who say stuff like "you can't say anything anymore" and you ask them what they can't say and they can't tell you hahaha.

@Ryannnnnn Disagree. You live in America? If you did and visited a few College campuses you would have a different opinion.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@SumKindaMunster It's blown well out of proportion by the likes of Fox news and Ben shapiro. You'll deffo get some aggressively political teens because they're teenagers and they have an undeveloped sense of themselves and the world, I've seen a couple of examples. But the main thing that makes it a "culture war" is the fact that everyone goes on about it, doesn't happen much outside of a few isolated incidents.
Point is we don't have this here in the UK, while it may be more true in the US as you have a different culture, here it's basically just a myth used as a weapon by the right wing press.

@Ryannnnnn It's not, if anything it's dismissed by the left wing, sounds like you might be one of them.
That's fine, but my point was this is happening in America. I have no opinion of what the UK is like because I don't live there.

@SumKindaMunster Okay fair does. I mean I've been left and centrist, I don't tend to go by a label. I don't really understand this witch hunt mentality that a lot of people deep into US politics seem to have. I don't care if you're right or left, I don't get why people have to bring it up all the time.
I will say though that American media is mental, especially fox news, there's segments where it's not even legally allowed to be called news lol. So the politics there is deffo much more divisive.

@Ryannnnnn No argument there brother. Our media is obnoxious. Although the UK media doesn't exactly distinguish itself either, they have their own political biases they promote.
BohemianBabe · M
@Ryannnnnn So here's what's really going on.
Conservative politics are super unpopular in America. Most Americans are left-of-center. So what American Conservatives do is just come up with "boogey men" to scare people into voting Republican.
"Wokeness" is just a buzzword. It doesn't really mean anything, but it's used as this scary concept that is destroying America. Everything was ok, then the world went WOKE, and that's why you can't afford healthcare.
It's the same thing with "the trans agenda." Most Americans support trans people, but saying things like "schools are teaching the trans agenda to your children" sounds scary. And it actually does motivate our dumbest Americans to vote Republican.

@SumKindaMunster All the UK Murdoch owned press is toxic hyperbolic trash, it's basically our version of fox news.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@BohemianBabe Yeah pretty much
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Ryannnnnn All news media is biased, if you don't see that, it's because you share those biases.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@SumKindaMunster It is but some have more journalistic integrity than others, good indication and seperation of opinion, lack of hyperbole etc.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Ryannnnnn Agreed. I follow several journalists who left the MSM to create accounts on Substack. It has a wide disparity of opinions and you can find people who help you distill what is really going on in the world....it's a lovely diversity of opinions.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@SumKindaMunster Take the gaurdian for example. They're a left leaning paper who support the labour party but they have an opinion section for opinion articles and they don't lie or contort narratives to get their points across. They'll criticise the labour party as much as the conservatives and they're open about their political leaning.
The daily mail and it's owned counterparts on the other hand will purposefully manipulate their audience with bread and circus journalism, false or irresponsibly hyperbolic narratives regarding serious events, they will contradict themselves in the same day EG. "The Johnny depp and amber heard case is not some public spectacle, we have to remember these are people too" (article literally next to it) "Johnny Depps lawyers DESTROY Amber Heard!". That actually happened.

@Ryannnnnn Joey, you are completely right. It's political propaganda, yes, but what's worse is that it's self-preservation, at the expense of everyone! The myth of the Culture War, the refusal to accept in new generations of Americans with (surprise) new values and sociological identifiers is causing an entire setback of national law and order. The effects of this "culture war" are massive, all because we've made it tradition in the states to employ narcissists to mirror our own narcissism.
