One thing I have never understood…

When you’re going through difficult times and someone tells you, “Other people are going through worse.”

Is that supposed to be comforting ?

What does that change about your situation ?

Why would that make you feel better ?

And seriously, what kind of person feels better for knowing others are in worse shape than they are ? 🥺

I've often wondered too, how anyone could even think saying that would be comforting or helpful in any kind of way. Of course it doesn't make anyone feel better, it just insinuates that whatever worry, pain or grief a person is going through is somehow inconsequential...and need to be reminded that other people have been through "worse".
@Piper Yes. 🥺
