Pet Peeves #2 - Water Melon

I just cut open a watermelon I had in the fridge overnight. It's nice and red and juicy, but totally tasteless and not sweet at all! I'm about to throw a hissy fit! How do you grow a tasteless unsweet watermelon? There should be a law that requires every store to taste test every third watermelon. Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Rant done.
remember being a little girl with Grandpa and A&P would take a core out of the melon for you to taste. if you didn't like it they would cut it up and put it on ice

@saragoodtimes That’d be great!
Ontheroad · M
@saragoodtimes I like that idea!

That irritates me when it happens here more than I can say 😡
Ontheroad · M
@MellyMel22 Obviously it affects me the same way 😁
😢 saved a life today. @Ontheroad ☺️

Im glad it helped!
Was it seedless?
I’m finding that seedless have no flavor.
@Ontheroad thats even more disappointing!
This is a bit silly, but you could try it. I hear if you put sugar on a cumber it tastes like watermelons, you could try adding sugar to a slice and see if it brings out the flavor.

@nonsensiclesnail I will definitely try it. Thanks!

@nonsensiclesnail Just tried it with just a pinch of sugar and it works - adds the sweetness you want and does bring out just a bit of flavor. Now I don't want to murder anyone 😁. Thank you!

Ive had that before, wonder what causes it
Ontheroad · M
@Virgo79 No clue really. It's just maddening to have your mouth all set for a good watermelon and get yuck.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@Ontheroad maybe let it set in the frig a couple days.
With all this genetic stuff it may not be as ripe as it looks.
Ynotisay · M
GMO's and selective breeding have changed flavor in a big way.

Put salt on it. My parents used to do that.
Ontheroad · M
@Poppies I know people who do that too - just tried it with a slight sprinkle of sugar and it's much better. I'll try salt next.
