Never heard about it but just researched it. You seem to be correct. It seems to be a way for food sales places to make money on their end of day garbage. And you trying to transfer food where it could it do some good get screwed if the food is in crap condition. No refunds. If they wanted to help they would get to the local food banks themselves. There's certainly plenty of them all over the country.

@Gibbon The only way I would do it is in person if they can tell me what is in the mystery box which kind of defeats the purpose

@StygianKohlrabi yeah you're paying for it on someone else's behalf. It's a perfect setup to screw over two parties at once.
