I Hate Guys Who Hit Women

A few years ago while I was in college, I remember reading a sign that said "Real men don't hit women". And I found that kind of odd for a couple of reasons:

- Is this the best argument that's given for not hitting a woman? You aren't being a "real" man?

- Who are you to say what a "real" man consists of being? Is this in the Webster's dictionary?

- No one should be hitting anyone, regardless of gender. Whether or not guys are naturally stronger, we also are hurt if we're hit. There is domestic abuse on men, as well.

- If anyone was hurting their women, they wouldn't be reading that sign and think: [i]Oh sh*t! I wasn't acting like a real man?! Oh, I'm so sorry sweetheart for hitting you, my bad. How was I to know this was wrong?![/i]

So if the sign was speaking about domestic abuse, maybe just specify that it is wrong to hurt anyone in a household, in general, rather than being overly specific as it may be misinterpreted to mean that it isn't as big of a deal to hit a guy... cuz it is. And hurting anyone out of annoyance or anger is just wrong.

Does this really bother me? No, but I was running out of things to talk about so here it is! 😃

It's far more prevalent than society dare admit. Independent studies have all found men are just as likely to be victims of female perpetrated domestic abuse. They are also unlikely to be taken seriously if they do try to report it to the police.
