It makes me sad sometimes, when people thank me for being nice to them

Sure, that's just a common gesture to show appreciation since not everyone is nice, but with some, you can tell they're thanking you because they're not used to people being nice to them. 😟 Especially when they use such cautious language, assuming you're going to think badly of them for some of the stuff about themselves they share with you. It shows they're used to being judged by others. I wish people had more empathy... and opened minds. 😒

Unfortunately it is easier for people to immediately judge than to try to be understanding. Most people don’t have the will power and many not even the intelligence that it takes to hold back “easy instant judgement”. They’d rather keep their brains turned off.

@Ducky Yep, I see this a lot with others’ interactions with my son. He is not neurotypical, he has ADHD and some social/communication things on the Autism Spectrum. Many people, kids and adults alike, would rather instantly pass judgement on him as “annoying” or “problematic” because he might behave more hyper or rigidly than the average kid, and it takes him longer to understand social cues. The ones that do take the time to understand him will eventually see that he truly is a good hearted person, and they are happy that they did bother to take that time with him…but that’s a rare occasion unfortunately. “If you don’t fit our mold, then you are bad” is the status quo.
