I feel like I'm working in a mental institution...

A co-worker sent me an email with an attachment for a project we are working on. Five minutes after sending it to me, she called me and left me a voice mail telling me she sent the email and requesting that I check to make sure I could download the attachment. That seemed strange, but then she texted me... "Hey I just sent you an email with an attachment for *****. Can you check to make sure you can download it?" I didn't respond at first and a few seconds later, I got... "???" So, I replied, "Yes, I see the email. If you see the attachment in your email, then it's going to be in my email. Check your Sent folder."

She then called me again; I picked up... "Can you please check to make sure you can open the email attachment? I want to make sure you can open it because sometimes it doesn't send correctly." I was like, "WHAT???" We are working on a deadline, but this is crazy. I did open the attachment and told her I did. She seemed so relieved which I guess was good that I could help her reduce her stress. But, what a lunatic.

A bit over cautious, yet sometimes infrequently, a glitch can happen in sending.

Their sent box is just a copy of what they sent. It wasn't sent back to them from you. Nor was a checksum sent back either, verifying it was properly sent.

That checksum should be used at least, yet it's rarely done. What is sent back is just a ok, a acknowledgement (Ack) it was received. Not that it wasn't corrupted in sending. That's left up to the end receiving user.

@DeWayfarer "... yet sometimes infrequently..." So, not worth the amount of time she wasted for her... and for me... by super-checking her attachment which isn't even a major part of the project.

@MarkPaul your whole system is actually way out of date.

There should be a shared user area. No notifications would be needed.

@DeWayfarer Well, we use Teams... but she's a bit on the older side and needs instructions to use it each time.
