Anyone else REALLY creeped out by AI (Artificial Intelligence) artwork?

TL;DR AI (Artificial Intelligence) artwork just REALLY rubs me the wrong way. They often look good from a distance but upon closer inspection you find all sorts of things that are just "off." Like the incredibly misshapen hands and dead, lifeless eyes to give a few examples.

So for me...I don't know exactly what it is about it, but AI (Artificial Intelligence) artwork just REALLY rubs me the wrong way.

Like there have been many times I saw a "nice photo" online, only to take a closer look at it and realize it was made by AI, and see all the little details that give away that it's an AI artwork and not actually made by a real person.

Like from a distance the photo may look gorgeous even, but upon further inspection the hands almost always look really weird, the eyes are pretty off, the textures and shading are off, etc.

Like in general I know humans make mistakes when creating artworks, but AI seems to make mistakes that no human would let slip. Like mistakes that are just too glaring and any real human being would go back and fix them.

It's even worse when the AI artwork is supposed to be of real people and not just cartoon or anime characters though. To think the photo is ACTUALLY of a real person, only to find out the person doesn't actually exist as they're AI generated. Then I notice the skin of the person looks unnaturally smooth, the hands kind of weirdly shaped, the eyes kind of lifeless, etc...

All in all, it's kind of like one of those stories where a man sees a beautiful woman and approaches her, but then at the very last minute she reveals herself to be some sort of monster or demon and eats him alive. It feels like being deceived, basically. You expect one thing but get another. I see a beautiful photo and approach it, only for at the least minute it's revealed that it's just AI and not a genuine photo.
I hear you. I use Ai for referencing in my art all the time. I personally love it as it’s a useful tool. However I get you re the hand and eyes. It definitely gives uncanny valley vibes. It’s fascinating, I wonder where this will take the human race in the future.
@CrystalSkull I understand using it for referencing and as a tool. In general I would say anything AI is both cool and scary at the same time. Like it's interesting that technology and electronics could get THIS advanced, and still getting even more advanced at a relatively rapid pace, but at the same time it's kind of scary to think that the AI could eventually get so advanced that it turns against humans. Like you make this really intelligent AI that's smarter than the vast majority of human beings, but what happens if one day it starts to malfunction and go rogue? I don't know, maybe I've been watching too many movies and/or reading too many stories or conspiracy theories, but it doesn't seem impossible to happen. Even if the chance of it getting to that point is close to zero it's still not none.

Excuse my rambling back there, but...yeah. Uncanny valley indeed, lol. I don't think anything scares me more than uncanny valley honestly. Not EVERYTHING considered "uncanny valley" scares the shit out of me, but when it does it REALLY scares me. I get paranoid and think the uncanny valley thing is going to come to my house as a ghost or something and haunt me... 😂😂😂

But yeah...it's fascinating...and yeah, I do wonder where it will take the human race in the future... 😅
@RandomPersonThings I understand and I don’t disagree at all.

No,i do not get creeped out by AI,but i do find AI pics to be very interesting, it is funny to see some of the mistakes. :)

AI is doing artwork now? So what's the point of those picture lock things to keep robots out?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
Much better than what it was, much worse than what it will be.
@Zeusdelight That's pretty much the most simple AND best way to put it...it's better than it used to be, but it still has a shit ton of imperfections that will probably get fixed in the future.

Nope. Not a whit.

It’s evil.

I have zero idea how a computer can make an incredibly realistic-looking picture of a person yet end up giving them extra fingers. That's wacky.
@uncalled4 Yeah...it's really quite odd, isn't it? I've kind of seen different explanations for it. One of the explanations was hands are just generally hard to draw, even for real humans, so naturally AI (which is also made by humans) struggles with it as well. Another reason could be that the AI is more focused on the face and torso/legs, but not so much on the hands. Or another one, hands could be in so many different positions in so many different photos, and overall it's just too hard and complex for the AI to replicate.

I'm no expert myself but I'm just going off of what I heard other people say over time.

I have no problem with it. I'm much more disturbed by the deepfake/child abuse potential which are already being created with it. Having art be uncanny does even bother me in comparison.
@Renaci Oh shit, really? I mean I've heard of deepfakes themselves, and the issues they could cause...the biggest one I saw people bring up as that it could be used to create completely fake yet completely convincing video "evidence" of something, that could be used to frame innocent people who in reality did nothing wrong.

But the child abuse potential stuff I haven't heard about in regards to AI or deepfakes, and obviously that's much worse than all of the aforementioned things combined. This probably is too obvious to even be mentioned, but anything child abuse is just the worst thing imaginable. Rape, murder, torture, genocide, animal cruelty, etc, all of that is awful...but child abuse still seems to somehow be even worse, even though in theory it can't get much worse than murder.
