As of Saturday there were 1136 confirmed measles cases in Pennsylvania

Schools in areas of Pennsylvania are shutting down. Others are requiring vaccination records before allowing students to attend classes.

Dozens of new cases are being reported each day.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find an updated epicurve which graphs the new cases to get a handle on how the outbreak is progressing.

The good news is that in the most affected areas, MMR vaccinations are up over 100% more than before the outbreak.

Measles cases in the US are growing exponentially. SAD!

@ElwoodBlues Note: these are documented cases.

The total number of actual cases is certainly much higher.

For each 100 cases of measles we can expect from 1 to 3 deaths. Complications can be severe, such as encephalitis, deafness, blindness and rare but usually fatal subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). Deaths from SSPE can occur years after the infection.

So. I remember when everyone had chicken pox.
Most of them survived. 🙂
@Zonuss Are you talking about Chickenpox still?

That’s a different conversation; don’t confuse the feeble minded anti-vaxxers. The measles outbreaks are real, happening now, and serious (in some cases deadly).

If you want to broaden the conversation to including whooping cough (pertussis) which we are also starting to see and will see more of going forward and which is also potentially deadly and vaccine preventable I can live with that.

But don’t distract from the state of emergencies which are occurring in real time. If you must, start your own thread.

@KunsanVeteran No. Im talking about the measles. See. Missed the point again.
Quit being so emotional/
We are fine. 🙂
@Zonuss As I pointed out, you are being irresponsible.

Feel free to start whatever thread you want but be responsible enough not to derail this one, please.
