2026 Measles update in the United States
As we enter the second half of 2026, the outlook isn’t good.
As of July 2nd, there have been 2,170 confirmed measles cases in the United States in 2026. This number certainly underestimates the true number of cases.
For comparisons sake, for the entire year of 2025, a total of 2,289 confirmed measles cases were reported in the United States. In 2020 there were no cases of measles except for cases due international visitors.
There have been 31 new outbreaks reported thus far in 2026, and 93% of confirmed cases (2,019 of 2,170) are outbreak-associated (659 from outbreaks starting in 2026 and 1,360 from outbreaks that started in 2025).
Again for comparisons sake, there were 48 outbreaks reported in the entire year of 2025, and 90% of confirmed cases (2,066 of 2,289) were outbreak-associated. For comparison, 16 outbreaks were reported during 2024 and 69% of cases (198 of 285) were outbreak-associated.
Clearly, the trend is alarming!
During a Senate Oversight Hearing, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr falsely testified that “he had never told anyone not to get a measles vaccine.” Video clips were played of him saying exactly that. Lame duck Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy (himself a physician) who led the Republican Senators to all vote to confirm Kennedy’s nomination confronted Kennedy at that hearing by presenting him with the number of measles cases & deaths in the United States in 1950 (prior to the MMR vaccination being introduced) and later after mandatory vaccination requirements were enacted which showed a very dramatic drop in measles cases and reduction of fatalities to virtually zero.
What we have not seen from HHS and all the federal agencies under that umbrella is a consorted effort to educate parents regarding the safety, effectiveness, ease of obtaining, and cost-effectiveness of the MMR and other vaccines, nor a retraction of the amended vaccine schedule published under Kennedy.
It is time that Kennedy resigns or is removed.
