Measles cases are dramatically rising in the United States in the past six months
Six months into the year, 2026 is on track to set the record for the highest number of measles cases recorded in the United States since the highly contagious disease was declared eliminated from the country nearly thirty years ago.
As of June 4, approximately 2,030measles cases from 30 separate outbreaks have reached 38 states and Washington, DC, since the beginning of 2026, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, resulting in at least 127 hospitalizations. The majority, 92%, occurred in unvaccinated people and 72% occurred in children aged 19 and younger.”
The measles virus is one of the most contagious diseases and 90% of the susceptible individuals exposed to it will become infected. Approximately 20% of those who contract measles will require hospitalization. For every 1000 people infected, 1 to 3 of them will die. There have been three deaths in the United States from measles so far—2 children and one young adult (all unvaccinated).
Measles is almost completely preventable with two doses of the safe, widely available, inexpensive (in many cases entirely free), and highly effective MMR vaccine. The vaccine is so effective that the United States was declared “measles free” in 2000.
And measles are not the only reason for concern. Due to plummeting vaccination rates fueled by vaccine skepticism due to vaccine conspiracy theories of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr and others, whooping cough, neonatal hepatitis, polio, and other serious contagious illnesses are making a comeback.
Kennedy’s latest “vaccine related fiasco” is to change—without legitimate evidence—the recommended pediatric vaccination guidelines by the CDC. While he points to the practices of Denmark, Kennedy is drawing dubious parallels and distinctions that have not been tested, verified, or properly peer reviewed by appropriately qualified experts and fly in the face of decades of studies which document the safety and efficacy of the vaccines he denounces (without evidence).
Trump has appointed the Crown Prince of the Lunatic Fringe as his Secretary of HHS to the extreme detriment of Public Health in America. It was a dangerous experiment which as already proven deadly and it must be corrected.
Kennedy must be removed and the damage he has already caused reversed. Our children’s and their children’s health and very lives depend on this.
