When everyone demands unfettered access devoid of precautions, it's not only Covid that's gonna make it through.
Monkeypox is a scare, a trend. It'll be a flash frame in some end-of-year show and we'll all smile and say, "Oh my God, do you remember monkeypox?"
Here's why. It's transmissible through contact with infected body fluid, much like HIV; it's very difficult to pass along. Also - and crucially - there are two 'clades' or families of the pox. The bad one, seen only in Cameroon, can be 10-12% fatal. The other clade, the one making its brief tour, is 1% fatal and may feel like a mild flu.
What you're seeing on TV is worst-case scenario, as they want it to be. Why we haven't learned our lesson on fear-mongering, I will never know.
