I Have An Invisible Disability

So I have 2 main ones. First one is inherited and that’s my deafness. Both me and my baby brother have serious hearing problems. It’s something that makes talking to people difficult.

The other one is I am completely unable to feel touch or pain. And I have had a few people already tell me that I’m lucky to have it. I’m not. I injure my self a lot and don’t notice. I have had broken bones and not notice till my parents do. I’m babysat still to make sure I don’t hurt my self and every night my parents check me over.

It also effect how I feel heat. I can tell if something is warmer or colder. But I can’t tell if it’s burning hot or freezing cold. And I can’t tell if the weather is too hot for me in till I’m made sick because of it. When I was 12 in Disney in Florida I ended fainting in the park and cracking my skull cause I was too hot and didn’t notice.

And I don’t think it as a disability but I’m also on the autistic spectrum. I’m really low on it but I’m still on it.

I had watched a video over it and I know how difficult it is both for you and your loved ones. I guess by now you have made a good share of your research on what causes pain. Pain is an illusion made by the brain. I guess yours didn't bother to learn... so sad. But you can bring back pain, in theory, I think...

@Lilyharper I wish you did. Did anyone describe how pain feels?

@Lilyharper I would also like too. So here it is. I can describe that Pain is constant when it is there..(just like feeling a touch but 1000 times intensified) and fades away with time slowly. But it comes back if you touch that area for short while and fade away. if we have had a bruise. A strain is the same except whenever we move it hurts... Burning pain is more like tingling pain. (Just like feeling a pin on your skin but with million times the sense) That's how we feel pain. Pain isn't necessarily present when one is hurt, it can be there when one is sick, tired or stressed. Sometimes is mild, sometimes it more noticeable. Sometimes it feels like burning, sometimes it feels sharp short-lived, but most of the time it's long while fading slowly. Also, It's sad that you and your brother can't hear well.

You may not know Pain. But the absence of it is a pain in itself.

@Lilyharper Okay.. if it isn't touch then take the feeling warm and cold. Touch was an example. It's a feeling.. just like warm and cold.. but intense. That's good that your dad tried too...
