My daughter told us yesterday that she has ...
Decided to go to diabetes camp ...
I was beside myself with parenthood joy...
This is such a big step for her, what she goes through on a daily basis , having to be regimented and deprived of things that other children take for granted ...eating snacks and playing in the park are things she can't just do carefree .. She is stuck managing these things while other children run free reign ...
I am not saying she isn't vibrant and happy ...she has beautiful friendships with boys and girls alike and she explains her situation , but they're too young , and to outside her situation to really fathom ... Hell most adults can't .
But at the camp , she is going to be among kids in the same plight as hers ... And be able to completely relate more deeply with her condition . She will also be given the reign to be more independent with managing her diabetes and share and learn from others ..
She's so tightly wound with us as you can imagine , moreso than she would be without diabetes . This is the first year I have actually seen her stretch her wings and start to rely on herself. She is 10 and we first discovered she had type 1 when she was 4.....her diabetes anniversary was 2 weeks ago ....This will be such a beautiful leap for her ..
I am kind of fretting the tears and anxiety she will experience as we get closer to the date of the week long camp in August .. She has only been away from us with her grandma , who is really her 3rd parent ... She only gets one call ... We are going to be on pins and needles as much as her...
I love my kiddo so so much and I am really happy I get to share this with you guys ...it's such good news ..I have been bursting to share with others
