I Love Someone With Diabetes

My question is how you guys deal with lows at night? I just get so paranoid but my partner acts relaxed. The reason I am now paranoid though is because they expressed their fears of what can happen at night if they are to go low while sleeping. They usually wake up when they are low but it takes one mistake.
it scares me because it's a lot to learn in this. I won't lie I'm a paranoid person time and the more I learn the more I also hear what can happen. I don't think people understand how serious and scary type 1 can be. It is a lifestyle and it really does effect a lot of peoole around you. So I hope others that have nothing good to say about diabetes really look into it. Any who that was my rant/question.

Keep jam in the bedroom. It is high in sugar when a lift is needed and doesn't need to be chewed so less chance of choking.

@Sagey47 Yes. Sometimes if they are really bad you have to put some on your finger and put it in their mouth. Side of gums is good. But they might bite so a wooden spoon is useful to protect your fingers.

Lol I shared this with them today and they found it interesting and funny because I was insisting jam in our room. I jjust loke to be prepared.

@Sagey47 Better to be safe than sorry. Best not to have anything on the floor that can be tripped on either. A trip to the toilet in the middle of the night can go badly wrong for a diabetic that is hypo.

Go to the diabetic nurse with them for training etc

and also do a basic life support course. Have an alert alarm

@yeronlyman I would love to and trust me its been a thought but they've done the courses and the doctors around here don't seem to understand diabetes too much... They had to teach themselves more then we're taught
How are they managing it, insulin or a pump ? In college my best friend had it and carried her kit, followed her routine. It was just how she lived her life. As a T1, your partner’s probably been adapting to the lifestyle for awhile.

@bijouxbroussard pump. Yeah I feel like I'm the one who is secretly freaking out they probably know what they're doing at night. It's just not easy to watch sometimes
