I've seen hateful comments here about Antonio Fauci, and how he should be locked up for "lying" about Covid.

Fauci is a scientist. And here's the thing for all those people who think they know better.

If you are not a scientist, and you disagree with scientists about science, it's not actually a disagreement.

You're just wrong.

Science is not "truth". Science is "finding the truth". When science changes it's opinion, it didn't lie to you. It just learned more.

Fauci did not lie. He changed his opinion in light of new information.

But you know that really.

Those who attack science are frightened of it, and especially find it hard to cope with the principle of uncertainty, re-questioning and revision necessary for its advancement.

A principle that separates it fundamentally from Mediaeval alchemy.

Many of those particularly attacking Dr. Fauci in the USA were likely doing so either for shallow party-political reasons; or from denial springing from understandable personal own fear of this new disease with strangely unpredictable effects.
