It never made sense to me...

At the height of the pandemic store hours were cut, 24-hour stores closed overnight, etc. WHY?? Didn't that just mean that MORE people would be jammed into the stores during the shortened hours, making virus transmission easier? Shouldn't the stores have been open MORE hours so the number of people shopping could be spread thinner, making distancing easier?

stores are meant to make money. less people in the stores means less sales.

have to cut cost somehow and the only real variable for any business is the hourly worker. sucks to be them (says the management) but if the business doesn't turn a profit then eventually everybody is out of work.

@Pretzel The whole thing about grocery stores being open 24-hours around here was that they had to be stocked at night, so they might as well let customers in since employees had to be there anyway.
