Why are vegans saying the coronavirus is karma for eating bats?

If karma is real then why do bad things happen to good people?

I imagine it's only a very small number of vegans who are that stupid, but virus or not there are vociferous ones among them determined to make themselves feel saintly by orchestrated and noisy attempts to dictate what we shall or shall not eat.
