thoughts about Coronavirus

I am not panicked - but I am skeptical, on several levels. I realize the US is not China - and I am thankful for that most days - but how much of a crisis would be needed to close down New York City? Or London?

The 'normal' daily mortality rate for China is 7% daily - or about 35000 deaths. At least that's what my English major's math skills calculate.

Why this tremendous fuss over "2.5%" of a limited population?

There is more here than meets the eye - I don't know how much more or its nature...but there's more.

@Mamapolo2016 To stay up on the realities, follow the CDC and NIH websites. They give fact not television news sensationalism.
@MySecretIdentity1 I do that. But the things I mentioned are facts in evidence.

Right ? For such a small percentage in the grand scale
of things .... the Spanish flu was worse with a higher percentage of fatalities

This coronavirus is small by comparison yet the news is freaking out @Mamapolo2016
@SW-User Well, that's what they do...I don't watch television 'news.'

I read a lot.

@Mamapolo2016 oh, don't get me wrong. I wasn't saying you were incorrect. I was just offering credible places to get into that a lot of people don't know exist. Are you in the medical field? I was a nurse and worked infectious disease for awhile.
@MySecretIdentity1 I'm not in the medical field, but I've been watching this stuff for over 50 years. China's actions appear prudent on some levels, but just as they were starting to see some real economic progress, they do this?

There's a reason, although I don't know what it is.

@Mamapolo2016 To a degree, I believe it is the living conditions. Any time you cram people together with live stock, you are asking for trouble. For instance ducks can pass avian diseases to pigs, and pigs can do the same to people. Then add the air pollution that exists there and you have internally damaged lungs that make infection easier.
@MySecretIdentity1 Closing down Wuhan, especially now that the virus is out of the bag...won't stop an infectious disease. It will slow the spread but it won't stop it.

'Regular flu' kills about 14.5% of those who contract it in the US.

Why this tremendous brouhaha - and not just from media, who profit from disaster?

@Mamapolo2016 It's trendy to panic. Remember the year 2000 computer bug, The pending ice age of the 70's, The Domino theory, SARS, Avian flu... etc etc...
@walabby I do, and I am not panicked. I'm skeptical. There's a difference.

@Mamapolo2016 I didn't mean yo infer that you were panicked, just the world in general..
