It is already figured out. It's just that we live in a capitalist world where greediness is prio.
There's a new modern advanced digital gene manipulation technology for cancer treatment. But hospitals around the world refuse to upgrade to the latest equipment. It will cost billions and billions.
And it will need less time and give zero side effects , and needs no medication so the patient will not have to return to the hospital 300 times for cancer treatment. The patient pays for maximum 3 visits. Where one is a surgery with 80% sucess rate.
Instead of telling citizens the truth they say the old equipment the "only" cancer treatment help available and that it's normal to puke and lose all hair and feel aches and pain when being treated, also a lie.
But it demands more hospital care, aka, treatment will cost more for the patient. Aka win for the hospital and the government and they can use their old equipment they once paid billions for.
Maybe in 30-50 years, hospitals have been forced to upgrade their equipment. As the citizens won't buy their crap anymore when they know how advanced the cancer research truly has become.

@Queendragonfly well partially the fault for capitalism but we haven't cured it to my knowledge like other illnesses like that easy.
