It’s not being “woke” in my mind, it’s common sense and decency.

MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Woke means finding fault in everyone but yourself.

@MrBrownstone the woke are trying to shake up the status quo. Every generation does that. Some generations have a greater legacy than others. Each generation has its own challenges. Woke is not the answer but for now some people cling to it. It’s inevitable that woke leads to censorship and the loss of many freedoms.

That's called showing a friend or another person empathy when they've been diagnosed with a horrible illness that could potentially end their life in a very painful manner. Hopefully we'd all really feel that empathy too.

"woke", however, is identifying and engaging in various social causes, usually those centered around sex, race, gender, etc. in society. Woke people will look for and perceive injustices, when in reality they really aren't injustices...or are just examples of what happens to most other people regardless of the aforementioned characteristics. In general, it's insincere because real empathy isn't experienced like that. We feel bad about certain things, we try our best for our families, we help where we can, and so on...woke is taking a supposed "concern" much further than that but not for reasons that are genuine or commendable. If anything, it is the ultimate suppressor of empathy, which has many dimensions and can only be real if it is genuine.

I think most people here are aware of how much I truly hate the GOP. However, if someone receives a Cancer diagnosis that is an acquaintance of mine I am putting politics aside and doing whatever I can for them, even if they identify as a conservative.. I really don’t see “Woke” in it’s current usage as a legitimate word or description , so I don’t have a clear answer for your question.
Eklipse · F
Because empathy and too much of it can consume you and affect you. It's fine to provide support but don't make others pain your own. You'll suffer.

Dont see how that is woke tho.
Eklipse · F
@revenant you got to take care of yourself too.
revenant · F
@Eklipse ahah I mistakenly thought you were answering a question of mine. But it still stands
Eklipse · F
@revenant all good 🌹

Showing empathy and compassion to a friend should go without saying, otherwise are you truly a friend!?

Being woke isn't a bad thing. Though I think it needs to be kept in check. Some go to far, too PC and it just gets silly.
Kindness however is never a big ask, or at least shouldn't be.
IamCuriousBabe · 51-55, F
This is a long time friend who is suffering, at NO point should your compassion and concern be tagged with such idiotic terms.
Mondays · F
I have taken care of all kinds of cancer patients and yes I have compassion.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Show them empathy. Anything that discourages that is evil.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
No, woke is being aware of the plights of people you don’t personally know who are somehow seen as different from you. What you described is just part of being a good friend.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@TheGreatestEver123 That’s not how most people define it.
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@JPWhoo that’s what it does though. Look what they have done to historical figures, great literature and the careers of people who question their narrative (including by the way, genuinely caring, courageous freedom fighters from the past).
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@TheGreatestEver123 Which “genuinely caring, courageous freedom fighters from the past”? Examples, please.

Also, “got them fired and expelled from public life”? I’d love to see a dead person get fired, and I think they got expelled from public (and private, for that matter) life when they died.

What a loser. You are trying to use this guy's cancer (if even true) to make the cheapest, lamest and irrelevant political own

If compassion and empathy is woke then I am proud to be woke! 😤😤😤 We should show compassion and empathy to others! 💖💖💖
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@MommyLucy It’s not.
Woke literally means being aware of the suffering of others. Especially oppressed groups of people.
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
Who would ever describe that as ‘woke’?
revenant · F
@TheGreatestEver123 pathological altruism
Glossy · F
I don’t think you have understood the meaning of the word “woke”.

Dolimyte · 41-45, M
No, that is way off.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
That’s not what woke us to me. Please show your friend compassion and empathy during this time.
