I Have Cancer

Finally a happy post-
Today was my last radiation treatment and my last day of cancer treatment for what I hope is my final episode of cancer. It has been 10 months of cancer treatment- 5 months of chemo, 2.5 months of surgery/recovery and 2.5 months of radiation.
I never thought I would be diagnosed with cancer- it does not run in my family and the doctors even did a genetic test which proved I do not have any genetic abnormalities to support cancer. While I am still in shock I have this diagnosis and will have to manage/monitor it for the rest of my life, I look for the silver linings- I am very lucky it was caught before it became stage 4/terminal (they almost missed it). I'm lucky I had access to very dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable medical professionals surrounding me. I am lucky I have access to health insurance and good medical facilities. Most of all, I am lucky to have people who have helped care for me for the past 10 months in a multitude of ways through the arduous cancer treatment process. Tomorrow I will wake up and find a new way to live with this diagnosis- not with fear, pity or contempt but with humility and gratitude.
