Hmm 🤔- looking for some answers

If you were to genetically modify a malaria patients HBB gene and give them sickle cell allele would it slow down the parasites reproduction rate?

Sickle cell trait (AS): Carries one mutated gene; lowers severe malaria risk by roughly 85% to 90%

Possibly, but it would be very impractical. Gene therapy is still in its infancy, high risk and extremely expensive. Existing treatments for malaria are fairly cheap and effective. The issue is getting them to the areas where malaria is common. A million dollar per patient high risk low reward alternative isn't going to make that part easier.

Until better understanding of genetics has been made, actual modifications to genes should be limited.

I'm of the firm belief that genetics operates similar to a neural network methodology.

Many genes affect many other genes. Like a neural network does with nodes.
