Mask sales will increase by 1500%.
We weren’t in one last time.
@QuietReverie Just 550,000 excess deaths in the US per year above baseline, that's all!!

Rambler · 61-69, M
No. The virus is well known and does not spread easily. Not worried.

And it’s an American virus I looked it up
exexec · 70-79, C
It is not easily spread between humans, so a pandemic is almost impossible. We have had hantavirus outbreaks in the Southwest, and they were quite local.

Whats with it?
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
"Hebrew Slang 'Hanta' Means Scam. A casual question about a Hebrew word led to a wave of surprised reactions when users learned 'hanta'—the root of hantavirus—translates to 'scam' or 'fraud' in Israeli slang."

Read this this morning. Interesting.

@Kuronekko so what? You believe that the hantaviridae family were so named purely to fool the world at some point in the indeterminate future? I'm sure you could let the victims' loved ones know that they didn't actually die - it's all a con.
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
@Waveney So it's probably just another scam?
Monalisasmith86 · 36-40, F
My support worker said that is a virus people tend to get on cruise ships, so unless we’re all on a cruise ship, I don’t think it will be another pandemic
Waveney · M
I doubt it.
It doesn't communicate very easily between humans; direct transmission is less common. So I'm not terribly worried.

On the other hand, precautions and isolation of those who test positive is sensible.

The media is trying to take our minds off the disaster taking place in the Middle East. Nothing more.
