What's next???

A new cluster of the highly fatal Nipah virus (NiV) has been reported in West Bengal, India, as of January 2026, with cases including infected hospital workers. This zoonotic virus, carried by fruit bats, causes severe encephalitis and respiratory symptoms, with fatality rates between 40% and 75%.

Probably about the same as after the last 16 outbreaks of that virus: a few deaths in India before it's contained again. 🤷
