I had both eyes done two weeks apart last fall. I didn't have freezing drops that I am aware of. I did have oral anesthesia that zonked me. I was awake, but not. I opted to have lenses put in so I could see distance without glasses and only use readers to read now. I was scared to death prior to the surgery. Then felt foolish afterwards. It was a piece of cake.
