10,000 calorie challenge

So I'm house-sitting for my step-brother this weekend and looking after his dog, and started planning how to entertain myself.

I always thought these Youtube eating challenges looked fun and playing with some calorie calculators online it doesn't even look all that difficult 😅

I'm so excited for it already. Just all day of movies and snacking until I'm unable to move

I didn't manage 10k... I had to stop somewhere between 8 and 9000 calories 😩

I started with 4 thick peanut butter sandwiches and a carton of orange juice, then took the dog for a walk. I came back and watched my first movie with a bottle of coke and a bag of M&Ms. Ordered a Chipotle pre-lunch. Then some pasta and veggies and a couple more cans of Coke. Had a break for 30 minutes and went out for a slow walk (waddle) with the dog again 😅
I don't even want to list the rest as it was a lot 😱
A pizza, some cheesecake, McDonalds...

I felt like Thanksgiving x3, I was so stuffed full that my body became pretty uncooperative in things like getting up, bending, walking 😅
I don't know if I'd do it again though, and definitely not for a long time if I did.

@GainerDrew Yeah I couldn't fit another 1000 in at all 😆

@Emele maybe next time!
piggo88 · 36-40, M
@Emele that's really impressive still! A lot of people underestimate how much food you have to eat to get calories that high. Once I challenged myself to eat 6000 calories every day for five weeks to win a weight gain competition, and I was basically packed to capacity 24-7. My record was about 8000 calories in one day, and I barely managed it.
By the end of it, I had gained almost 40 pounds.

And the point....?

I genuinely am puzzled - even someone involved in very strenuous activities all day in harsh conditions doesn't expend 10 000 calories* a day.

Five times the "reference value" of daily energy expended by the average adult, of 2kcal., which is approx.8.2kJ. (I found these values on various food packets in my own kitchen.)

Someone like a building-site labourer might expend 4kcal, especially in cold weather. Probably 5kcal for a mountaineer in very high mountains, or a polar explorer manually hauling a sledge across the terrain.

It may not be the case for you but do these foolish "challenges" come from an absurd, self-destructive drive wilfully to become dangerously obese?

......

* The calorie and kilocalorie are obsolete units with a rather messy history.

The kilocalorie (kcal) is still quoted on food labels along with the equivalent in the modern units of energy, the joule (J) and kilojoule (kJ), adopted internationally as long ago as 1948!

But the obese ones are so pretty@ArishMell
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Willomk1 That's a matter of personal preference but I am far more concerned with their health than your fetish.

That you like to see anyone clinically obese shows only you have no care or respect for them. You are cruel.
Willomk1 · 46-50, M
I adore them and care for them just like them big
@ArishMell

While one half starves, the other half rest themselves to death... Who said we've evolved?
Emele · 31-35, F
@ozgirl512 🤷‍♀️ There is inequality, yes. But me ordering a pizza doesn't take it from the table of someone else. You may disapprove and I get it, but I won't feel guilty for 'having' because others are 'have not'. I think it's wrong that people are starving too of course.

And to an extent, I didn't choose to want this... it's a compulsion. I can choose to give in to it or not, but it's the way I'm made.
annamk · 31-35, F
Oh wow 😳
I believe you CAN do it, I'm not really sure you SHOULD do it... I hope it's as much fun as you expect.
GainerDrew · 26-30, M
You might want to try for 12k! 10,000 isn’t quite as exciting as you’d expect it to be

If, God forbid, I tried that challenge I would eat nothing for an entire week afterwards.
SW-User
True – in the long run. But with one day, I doubt it. @ArishMell
Emele · 31-35, F
@ArishMell I know it's not exactly healthy, it's a one off thing. And I will be losing weight in the second half of the year for sure.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Emele Well, good luck with it, but I am curious why these challenges take place at all.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I really don't see how that is possible.

You see I must maintain a 3,000 calorie diet as is. Which is hard enough to do. I'm classified as severely underweight. And have had problems all my life.

Having a high metabolism really s*cks! 😞

FYI I'm eating tostada chips right this moment with sour cream as a dip!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Emele I'm sitting in front of a full family pack of Oreo cookies. That's 160 calories for three cookies. I might manage to eat a full row that's 853.33 calories!
Emele · 31-35, F
@DeWayfarer I'll add them to my list 😋😄
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Emele Done with that row! That's after half a bag of tostadas with sour cream dip.

Completely full though. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Notfatenough · 46-50, M
Impressive feat! 8-9k calories is no small task!
Notfatenough · 46-50, M
@Emele And you definitely don't look it! Looking quite round. Hehe
Emele · 31-35, F
@Notfatenough Literally waddling 😳🙈
Notfatenough · 46-50, M
@Emele I love waddling!
Fatteninglover97 · 26-30, M
Enjoy your soon to be (maybe) daily binge 😅❤❤
Emele · 31-35, F
@Fatteninglover97 Um, even weekly would be a stretch 😲
Fatteninglover97 · 26-30, M
@Emele fair enough 😁
Notfatenough · 46-50, M
I never said it back then, but amazing job! I couldn't do that even if I tried my hardest. ;)
Thodsis · 51-55, M
Don't eat the dog.
Emele · 31-35, F
@Thodsis Hmm there's not much eating on him, it shouldn't come to that.
Thodsis · 51-55, M
@Emele Take the dog for a walk first. If you're doing a lard-arse challenge then walking can come later...
Emele · 31-35, F
@Thodsis Good thinking
PhaqueYou · M
Whay SW allows as an legitimate post these days.
Emele · 31-35, F
@PhaqueYou Yes?
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
I can't imagine that digestion will be a fun time at all...
Willomk1 · 46-50, M
Steadily build on your 100lbs won’t hurt
