Went on the date yesterday

He's very sweet, respectful, polite. Brought me a single black rose 🖤🌹. We had great conversation and he makes me laugh. I'm not sure there's a *spark* there physically for me. Or maybe I've just gone past the age where I can feel physically attracted to someone or want physical affection. 🤷🏻‍♀

He touched me a lot, held my hand. We had a kiss at the end of the date. He made it clear he definitely is into me on every level. But I'm still not ready to just jump into anything, and I hope he'll understand that.

My last two relationships were very void of physical affection. No kissing, no touching except in bed (which was a rare occasion). I'm just not used to being physically affectionate anymore or receiving it from anyone else. I feel like he was a little hurt that I wasn't more physical. But that's just not comfortable for me yet.

Also, he's a BIG guy, bigger than anyone I've ever dated, (think Jelly Roll before the weight loss), and he's self conscious about it, so I feel like he was taking my reserved physical affection as a rejection. It wasn't. I'm just not READY to rush.

I'm 46 and have no idea how to do this anymore.

It's such a struggle to get some men to calm the hell down. They're either all over you or acting like you don't want them. I worry when they have those kinds of expectations, but it sounds like it was a very nice date. I'm glad you had a positive experience.

Now I'm disappointed. I was so looking forward to hearing about the Rumble in the jungle story about last night. No last stop at the closest motel. No slip sliding away. All the makings were there I could feel it as you progressed through the big coming event. And I just read the clue that made it all so unlikely.
I was living vicariously through your tale, now I ended up with a case of..

Sounds like you were honest with yourself as well as him. I hope things work out if that is your wish.
ineedadrink · 56-60, M
I think it's important that you let him know that you aren't put off by his size, if that is the case.
LeGrotesque · 41-45, F
@ineedadrink I did tell him that
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
No need to rush, but be honest with him and yourself about your feelings as things go forward, if they do.

Sounds good, though.

I`m loving reading that you both had a good time. That was just one date, lets hope there`ll be more.
Sometimes when we are so used to toxic relationships and then we meet someone who is kind it can be a shock to the system ...

Taking it slow is a good idea too
LeGrotesque · 41-45, F
@cherny I hope that's all it is
@LeGrotesque time will reveal all
ninalanyon · 70-79, T
Talk to him, tell him how you feel. Neither of you will know how to proceed if you just guess what the other wants or needs.
buriedalive · 51-55, M
I've always struggled with that too. I am not very affectionate. I have an avoidant attatchment style. I really feel im not capable of being in a relationship
LeGrotesque · 41-45, F
@buriedalive I am starting to believe that's me as well.

Here's the full thing I wrote. Maybe you're like me. At 51 I can honestly say ive never been in love. I always sabotage the relationship or test people
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
If you aren’t feeling a spark let it go. You decide if you’re going to have sex within 30 seconds and the rest of the date is confining the decision. Let him go! Find better!
LeGrotesque · 41-45, F
@Muthafukajones I don't have options I'm afraid. I have to take what I can get and try to work with it.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
@LeGrotesque I think you’re lovely! I don’t agree!!!

Sounds like you had a really nice time. During the first date, it's normal to be in protective mode. Just take it slow and see where it goes.
Do it at your own pace. That's it. Listen to how you feel. Nothing else is important.
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
It’s not how you do it, it’s doing what is comfortable for you. And rushing could be a frying pan into the fire scenario so it doesn’t have to be rushed. If it does become a thing then the patience will pay off.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
Give it time
You might be in self protection mode
