Dating people outside your circle of work or personal interests

Does it work? My first partner was a work meetup, and it worked for a while.

My second partner is a nurse, and it also worked for a while.

But despite both of them being shiftworkers in systems that are irregular like my work, it ended up not working in both cases for different reasons though.

So I wonder if dating people outside your 'circle' of work connections and personal interests is actually good or bad, or if it's even really possible to find that 'happy medium'.
