Am I tripping?

This past weekend I catch up with a friend and during our lunch I shared with her about another weekend. I shared how a guy told me I was “wifey” material and how I chuckled. Fast forward I was expecting my friend to hype me up as well and be like “ah that’s so cool, or look at you” you know something positive to a guy at the bar calling me wifey material because of how I was dressed modestly at a bar.

On the contrary when I told my friend, she told me “oh wow that guy must have been desperate and guys are desperate.” I had to sit with that for a moment when she said that and think to myself, did she really just say what I think she did. When I asked here did she just hear what she told me she said “I didn’t mean it that way, “ I menat like you got to be careful guys are desperate and will say anything.”

Anywho her explanation didn’t make sense to me. I mean would you get offended or was I overthinking. I just couldn’t figure why she would say guys are desperate when a guy told me I was wifey material instead of saying something positive. 🤔
I read this as she does not think "wifey material" is a compliment, which says more about her and the man at the bar than it does about you.

Maybe she was thinking, "You ARE hot, not frumpy."

Without history, I can't tell how she meant it but if I'm unsure whether something is a compliment or a veiled insult, I accept it as a compliment. Saves emotional energy.

I interpreted in 2 ways. Either she is throwing shades your way, or she is a man hater. She might have had bad experiences with guys. She may be secretly jealous of you, or maybe she thinks you ain’t shit.

Think about it all. Does she have a man? Had any bad breakups? Men harassing her in the past? Is she a loyal friend or is she a snake?

Honestly, I had trouble getting past that he said "wifey". My first thought would have been that if he's going to be a smart ass and use that term, he isn't worth another thought. While you may be a wonderful person and truly be someone who would make an amazing wife, he was a dope and would probably make a terrible husband.
