Should I continue to ask for my belongings back?

Long story short, I met this guy on bumble. We went on a few dates before he decided to end things with me a day before my birthday, because our conversations were fizzling out and he wasn't looking for a relationship. Of course I'm hurt, but I respect how he feels. The only thing is that he has a book of mine that I let him borrow. He said he'd mail it to me on Tuesday but I have a gut feeling that he won't. He was very rude to me via text after I gave him my address to return it. Should I even bother to reach out to him again and ask if he sent it or just purchase the book again?
