@BondGirl84 There are people who don't "get" the notion of "coming on too strong". If the guy was not really great at "these kinds of things" (first dates), already, and the few years of much reduced interaction has exacerbated that and his social/sexual craving for companionship...maybe that's it.

Since he did not literally fall, maybe this explanation works better...
