Absolutely not

Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
That's fairly better.

A woman I dated for a while and was into me told me that I need xxx amount in account if I had to ask her hand in marriage. She was like you need a better job which made sense but what hurt me was her constant statement of how the other men she met earned way more than me.

I told her I didn't want her cash as she's rich but it hurt me bad. I'm not poor by choice. I'm poor because my dad chose to screw our lives.
SW-User
@Beatbox34 Then it is completely unacceptable. Glad you didn't go for this gold digger.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@SW-User I guess. I don't know why money has to everything these days.

No. Not financial...but yes for "Potential".

And I have had the financial thing done to me MANY TIMES while I was living in a third-world country, where, at the time, the per capita income was around $550.00 per YEAR. On paper, I was making much more than their president.... but he was stealing the country's wealth so there was that... Background: I worked on a large military installation and was at the top of the enlisted ranks.... and I was in my early 30's and was single. Hence all the girls (young women) in town saw me as a target of marriage because of my financial status... not thinking of much of anything else.

To be honest, I went after the "arm candy" (yes, shallow...I know). And I dated (a lot), but while I found most dating partners to be fun, the substance (potential) just wasn't there. Often, I detected immediately that they were hung up on my status (rank/money) or they had little to no ambition other than seeing if I would marry them and rescue their family from poverty.

But there is a happy ending.... after getting bored with the "arm candy" dating scenario, I was introduced to my future (and current still after 30+ years) wife when one of her friends told me my now wife had a crush on me and I should pursue her.

@Threepio I can't blame those women in the 3rd world country.
Hunger can rob anyone from their dignity.
SW-User
@Threepio You expressed your experience pretty well in words. Which country are you talking about? I read that the President was stealing - Are you talking about Nigeria? Just curious.
SW-User
@eMortal I don't quite agree with the concept of Third World countries. A Third World country is an outdated and offensive term for a developing nation characterized by a population with low and middle incomes, and other socio-economic indicators. If we have to go with the Third World countries list, the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, France, China, and many more countries including my country, India fall in that list. Therefore, it looks like only United States is exempted from that list. lol

Yes, I once asked my homeless boyfriend to quit squatting in my place. He called me heartless and took it badly but he seriously was a homeless anarchist cursing the system while trying to persuade me that I had to support him for the greater good.

This is not your case of course...but my experience!

Cool! Better to find out early what his values are! Good riddance!
Nanori · F
He wanted a full functioning robot and not a gf
At the least he was honest.

There’s women and men who both base relationships off that sorta stuff.

I wouldn’t take offence but rather appreciate the honesty and time saved.

@Teggy A good point.

No I care about different things
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
If a prospective partner is too far below your wage demographic a relationship becomes hard.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Muthafukajones perhaps so. He recently bought his own house. Is a little older.
I've lived alone since I was 19 renting never been in debt or go e into rent arrears.
I won't lay out my credentials but wanting his money is not on my list of things to acquire in life.

@Muthafukajones no idea, I'm not in a position to not be able to build a life with someone
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Look on it the way round. He failed you and you are probably better off without him. Maybe his attitude is why he's single.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
Been a long time since I was dating but back then my assessment was pretty basic. Was she nice to be around? Did she have nice boobs? Was she willing to grant me unfettered access to said boobs? If she could check all three boxes we were jake!

What’s a “date?” 🤔
SW-User
he sounds crass but most people do it in their head anyway
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
@SW-User so your problem is with him having an opinion about what he wants in life and then having the audacity to say it out loud?
SW-User
@Muthafukajones you’re projecting hard my only point is you don’t need to ask ppl 100 questions to gauge their lifestyle body language etc is enough so the guy was crass
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
@SW-User yes you can tell a lot from a person without invasive questions on a date that’s for sure.
No, I never have. And I wouldn’t be interested in anyone who did.
eMortal · M
I think girls have done that to him before, he was taking his revenge on you. That guy hates women. Stay away.
