How do people end up hating their exes?
I am on good terms with all my exes. One gives me unfriendly vibe, but she gave a ride when my car was in a repair shop, so I can't call her unfriendly either.

Emotional baggage and symbolism that can be hard to move on from? It actually doesn't mean they love them any less than they once did. Personality clashes after years, as people changed, they never were able to reconcile? The possibilities are endless, I try to keep good relations with my exes, and I can promise you that doesn't always work.
