"You're the First, the Last, My Everything" – Barry White

[media=https://youtu.be/E7zmRvhFEYo]
"You're the First, the Last, My Everything" was originally written as a country song by musician and songwriter Peter Sterling Radcliffe. It had the title "You're My First, You're My Last, My In-Between" and went unrecorded for 21 years. Radcliffe eventually offered the song to his friend, Barry White.

The R&B/soul artist immediately saw the song's potential, telling the songwriter, "Sterling, that song is a smash . . . I want you to stay out of my face for the next two or three weeks. When you come back, you're going to be part of a smash".

White subsequently changed the title and part of the melody, re-wrote most of the lyrics, and recorded the reworked composition as a disco song. Songwriting credits were shared by Radcliffe and White on what was indeed a "smash" hit: The recording made it to #1 on the US R&B chart, #2 on the US pop and US Dance Club charts, and the top 10 in at least eight other countries in 1974–1975.

I like the Barry White one. I've never heard of Peter Sterling Radcliffe.

@KarenisKenziesmum I've only heard Barry White's version and like it very much. Not sure if Radcliffe's version was ever recorded in its original form.
