“Rock the Boat” – The Hues Corporation

[media=https://youtu.be/svCVX5ah8g8]
Forty-eight years ago this week, this early Disco song reached #1 on the US singles chart. It also made it to #2 on the US R&B chart and #5 on the US Dance Club chart. The song was a Top Ten hit in several other countries as well.

“Rock the Boat” initially looked like it had flopped. After its release, months went by without the song getting much in the way of radio airplay or record sales. It wasn’t until the record became popular in disco clubs, particularly in NYC, that it finally made a splash on Top 40 stations and climbed the charts.

This was The Hues Corporation’s most successful single. Of the song, group member St. Clair Lee said:

"It was a song that you could do anything on. You could cuddle or you could get crazy if you wanted to. It was a love song without being a love song. But, it was a Disco hit and it happened because of the discos."

It reminds me of this ride from my youth. Lots of free fall!

@JoyfulSilence Ah, very good. I'm assuming that was a fun ride for you.

@Rutterman

I did not enjoy it. The acceleration and free fall were alarming!

When I was at the top staring down over the ship it was scary. I could not wait for it to end. What was I thinking?

@JoyfulSilence Oh no. Haha. Perhaps it's best not to think about it. 😬
