“Rock the Boat” – The Hues Corporation

[media=https://youtu.be/svCVX5ah8g8]
Forty-eight years ago this week, this early Disco song reached #1 on the US singles chart. It also made it to #2 on the US R&B chart and #5 on the US Dance Club chart. The song was a Top Ten hit in several other countries as well.

“Rock the Boat” initially looked like it had flopped. After its release, months went by without the song getting much in the way of radio airplay or record sales. It wasn’t until the record became popular in disco clubs, particularly in NYC, that it finally made a splash on Top 40 stations and climbed the charts.

This was The Hues Corporation’s most successful single. Of the song, group member St. Clair Lee said:

"It was a song that you could do anything on. You could cuddle or you could get crazy if you wanted to. It was a love song without being a love song. But, it was a Disco hit and it happened because of the discos."

Uh!! Nostalgic.....

It made me happy to listen to it and of course sad...

Happy memories.... and sad to find out that I was dancing to this nearly half a century ago....

I must be as old as God.... lol... 🤗🤗

@Soossie Hahaha. I'm at least glad it brought back happy memories for you. As for feeling as old as God, I'm afraid I can't help you with that. 😅 🤗
@Rutterman

Lol... that's al ok.... I still hold the dancing spirit with me.... 🤗🤗
That's a great disco song! Thank you! Happy Sunday!

@SweetMae You're very welcome. I've always loved it too. 🎶

It's a catchy, upbeat song, I thought back then and still do. While I never detested "Disco", it did take me awhile to appreciate that it really was good in it's 'own right'.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Piper I've heard others say the same thing, or something similar. While they didn't care much for Disco back in the day, they came to appreciate it many years later.

It reminds me of this ride from my youth. Lots of free fall!

@JoyfulSilence Ah, very good. I'm assuming that was a fun ride for you.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Rutterman

I did not enjoy it. The acceleration and free fall were alarming!

When I was at the top staring down over the ship it was scary. I could not wait for it to end. What was I thinking?
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@JoyfulSilence Oh no. Haha. Perhaps it's best not to think about it. 😬
Hope70 · F
That brings back memories. Now I'll have that song in my head.😄
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Hope70 Mostly good memories, I hope. 😎

@Rutterman Predict my Future
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@JohnOinger Hi, John. You will eventually accomplish many things.

You'll become a famous movie star and will make a lot of money in the process; you'll become a politician and serve as governor of California and president of the US; you will also become a scientist and inventor, a talk show host, and an author who writes many well-regarded books and articles. There are many other things I see in your future as well,
