I grew up near one of the main venues for Northern Soul, The Torch in Tunstall.
I was a bit too young for it but it was very popular. A group of Northern soul fans used to come to our youth discos on a Wednesday and take over the dance floor. I had older cousins who were big fans and introduced me to the music.
