Getting back into cycling in my 40s is a challenging experience in North America

It seems so hard to find a bike that is not 60 years old that is just designed to be practical and comfortable to ride. The Dutch have their omafiets and the Japanese have their mamachari but in North America the closest we have really is a beach cruiser. Everything else you have guys in lycra with delusions of racing the Tour de France on a 10k road bike or people riding mountain bikes like suburban moms driving 4x4 SUVs to drive kids to soccer practice.

Finding something that is just practical and doesn't involve massive amounts of money and cosplaying pro athletes over here is hard.

I am not familiar with any of the bicycles that you named. Have you tried a reclining bike? The physical therapists and sports physicians whom I have worked with recommended them for the middle aged.

This is only a suggestion to consider—I have never used one and can’t give a personal recommendation.
@KunsanVeteran The two bikes I mentioned are just very simple upright bikes meant to get you from point a to point B and are based on the original English "safety bicycle". They used to be more common here before the 70s when racing and mountain bikes took over the North American market.

A beach cruiser is about the only thing left from the casual practical bike era but they have a more reclined seat and often more forward peddles. The downside to those are the large balloon tires similar to fat bikes have worse rolling resistance on pavement so not great if you hit a hill.

Found a shop in town that sells kind of a hybrid of the cruiser the company calls a pavement bike that might work.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Well, clearly and admittedly, I am no expert.

My comment was based purely on what I have seen my more knowledgeable colleagues recommend to middle aged and elderly patients. I guess you could phrase my butting in as “this might broaden your options if you haven’t already considered it, but obviously you know more than I do.”
@KunsanVeteran I appreciate that and briefly considered something like a Mobo trike.

But I have a good idea of the style of bike I am looking for. Might buy a cruiser trike.

Mostly I am also kind of looking to find people to ride with and most of North America cycling culture seems so fixated on making it about extreme athletics.

Hey, so have you got that visual evidence of the thing you claimed I said that I never said?

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I didn't know providing evidence for positive assertions was playing middle school petty games.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I agree. You lying about your intentions is definitely playing middle school games.

As such, I will continue saying whatever I feel like about you until you provide evidence for your claim about me. Remember, you set the rules for this new post evidence society.
