I Am Native American (cherokee)

I am only a 1/4 Cherokee though. Growing up though I didn't even know until I was an older teenager. It is on my dads side of the family and he never talked about it. I made the comment once that when I tanned in the summer that I looked a little "native" and my grandmother said to me that is because your grandfather was Indian, it's in our family.
I said this to my dad a couple days later and he got very upset and told me my grandmother was a fruitcake. Yet it got me researching the history and taking a closer look at the photos and time and again I could see it, especially in my grandfather. I pointed this out to my dad and he just shook his head.
To this day that side of the family doesn't talk about it. I on my own studied the history of the Cherokee and I am not embarrassed or ashamed to talk about it. I may only have a small amount in it, but that's okay. I think it just adds another interesting element to who I am. :)

Good for you. The Native Americans suffered a horrible hollocast"

Whenever someone comes in the name of government it should give pause yes?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Not always but I see your points!
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
I'm also Libertarian so that should explain a lot? lol
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ravenwind43: I agree with many libertarian ideals, but society does have a role in protecting some portion of society, as well as preventing some one from hurting themself.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
From hurting ourselves? I don't know about that. I do agree that some government is needed to make and enforce reasonable laws for society as a whole.

@ravenwind43: Wow, I'm a Libertarian, too. Even ran for NC legislature twice in the 2000s.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@EnigmaticGeek: cool! There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of Libertarians here:)
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@ravenwind43: Are you also in NC?

For that matter, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of Libertarians anywhere, or at least not enough to get elected to legislatures.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
No I'm not...further up East:)
Everyone is afraid of a third party. No one wants the change even though they say they do. Gary Johnson got way more votes this past election than I anticipated but still nowhere near what was needed to even show up. So unfortunate.
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@ravenwind43: I hear you. I voted for Johnson even though I wasn't impressed at all with Weld. I just couldn't bring myself to vote for Clinton or Trump.

I stopped running for office entirely when I realized that the electorate doesn't want the truth, or can't/won't handle it.

Libertarians may get their chance when the USD is no longer the world's reserve currency. That will end the ability of the US to run its massive federal deficits without also destroying the value of the dollar when purchasing internationally traded commodities, such as oil, gas, grains, and many others. Average Americans will then learn a new word already known to Greeks, Argentinians, and other societies: Austerity.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@EnigmaticGeek: You're right. They don't want the truth. I voted Johnson also because I couldn't bring myself to vote for the other clowns. I'm sure it was difficult running and feeling like it was a losing battle.
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@ravenwind43: It did feel like a losing battle. As a state legislative candidate, I received a 2 inch thick pile of mail each election cycle from special interests and lobbyists on the slight chance that I'd actually win. I couldn't support anything as a Libertarian for which I was being lobbied. That opened my eyes to how legislatures, especially Congress, can so easily make such boneheaded decisions as they often do.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@EnigmaticGeek: There isn't much TO support when so much is becoming oppressive, especially in the areas of speech and how much control one has of their own property. In my state the list to add solar to your property is a thick pad of regulations..and you're still paying a 1,500 permit to install, as an example.
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@ravenwind43: Sounds like you're in NJ or NY. LOL

There shouldn't be any regulatory requirement other than maybe to use a qualified electrician and possibly a roofing contractor to help with rooftop installation so no leaks are caused, etc. Solar should be encouraged (or at least left alone), not hindered as it is in so much of the country.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@EnigmaticGeek: Very good and I agree! Lol

@EnigmaticGeek: I'm from NC but don't live there now. I miss the fireflies.😞
