I Am Native American

Native American cuisine doesn’t get enough fair credit. Do you like popcorn, wild rice, succotash, chitlin, hominy, cornbread and fry bread? Yo. 💁🏽‍♀️

I love cornbread. I used to make it for my family all the time, with a big pot of soup, and popcorn was my mother's staple food, along with ice cream and hamburgers...😂. Corn tortillas are good, too!

Did you know that corn was originally a type of grass called Teosinte, and it took more than 10,000 years of careful horticulture by the Native Americans of Central Mexico to create the type of corn we now grind and eat today as cornmeal?

@4meAndyou I did know that and it’s pretty crazy how humans used to cultivate things and shape fruits and vegetables into what they are today.

@PerchingDove It really is...and it really took a long time. Think of selecting the best and biggest seeds to replant the following year...and the thousands of harvests...really cool, and so worth it!
