To all my American friends, don't fall for this Canadian delicacy. It's a French-Canadian invention that actually tastes like krap. French fries, hot gravy and cheese curds, all served up in a cardboard container and eaten outside with a plastic fork when it's -40 degrees .

@swirlie I love it, but not in a cardboard container or those temps. Inside in a proper bowl. ;)

@Degbeme

Poutine served up in Royal Dalton and served as a side-dish at all finer Canadian dining establishments nationwide. Be sure to book an appointment with your Cardiologist ahead of time!

Royal Dalton

Where you eating to get that. Regular service ware is what I`ve seen. I love it, but very rarely eat it. It`s a treat.

At the main dining room of the Frontenac Hotel in Quebec City is where you'll get poutine served up in Royal Dalton, alongside a place-setting of Sterling Silver flatware.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@swirlie I`ll pass on that place.

OH come on! They's speak English to you if you but make half an effort to parlez la ding-dong to them first!
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@swirlie Well my French is close to being nonexistent. I don`t do posh well either.

@reubles

the food at the chateau sucks,

The Chateau Laurier Quebec City is located near the Plains of Abraham and the Parliament Buildings, whereas the Fairmont Frontenac Hotel Quebec City is located high on a hill overlooking the St Lawrence River.

The place I'm referring to is the Frontenac, not the Chateau. The Fairmont Frontenac is a class act, whereas the Chateau is an old renovated CN Hotel with heat radiators in every guest room.

@Degbeme
You don't do posh well? Well in that case, just follow me around in my black leather body suit and I'll show you which fork to use first when the poutine arrives at our table!
reubles · 41-45, M
@swirlie I've stayed at the chateau Frontenac, and the food isn't that great, I'd much rather skip the dishes or walk to a better place to eat. Just because it's fancy doesn't necessarily mean that the food is good. Also the palace Royale is less expensive, the suites are pretty sweet, and you're right across the street from a poutine place

@reubles
The hotel I'm referring to is called The Fairmont Frontenac. Where you stayed was the Chateau Laurier, which is referred to locally as The Chateau. The Fairmont Frontenac is a 5 star experienced compared to the Chateau Laurier.
reubles · 41-45, M
@swirlie I know where I stayed and it was the Fairmont le château Frontenac. Big lobby, high ornate ceiling, the restaurant is mid and the breakfast sucks. It's where I chose to spend,what was supposed to be, my last weekend in the city after my kidney transplant. The table where I sat overlooked the boardwalk just below the little park behind the hotel. There's actually a tunnel that connects the restaurant/dining area to some shops and a Starbucks, the tunnel is also like an exhibit with historical plaques n shit. I'm familiar with the place

@reubles
You told me you stayed at the Chateau. The name "Chateau" refers to the Chateau Laurier in Quebec City, not the Fairmont Frontenac.
reubles · 41-45, M
This is where I stayed

@reubles
Good for you! That isn't what you said in the first place though! The food is excellent at the Frontenac, so I don't know what restaurant you were dining in.
reubles · 41-45, M
@swirlie I said the chateau, and as you see right there in the name, there's château. Le (the) Château Frontenac, and the food isn't all that, the breakfast really does suck, there are so many great places to eat within walking distance from the hotel.

@reubles I've been admiring this place for years....It's on my list to visit...
reubles · 41-45, M
@fun4us2b old Quebec is beautiful. Especially around Christmas. But it's a lovely place year round
