I did see an interesting perspective explored yesterday that part of the impetus for this particular embarrassment could be due to the increasing numbers of Americans looking to Canada as a possible escape route. It is consistent with the authoritarian playbook to aim to quell the hope of the people. If we feel we can’t escape him, maybe we’ll accept our fate with more resignation. I don’t think it’s the only contributor, but I imagine his puppeteers would appreciate that side effect. I find it hard to believe you truly need to worry about this (yet), but I understand completely being offended by the unprofessionalism and disrespect. I’m embarrassed for my country. 🫂

@Punches Looking at the evolution of his rhetoric, he (or more likely whoever is steering the ship) has ramped things up gradually. You have to normalize these things at an acceptable pace. Once upon a time, we were Americans, and the situation we find ourselves in now was unthinkable, where right and wrong are defined not by a moral compass but by whether there’s a D or an R after their name. Now he can wreak havoc by saying people are eating cats and dogs because his followers don’t question anything he says. The idea that international travel could be outlawed at some point is not an impossibility by any stretch; I think it’s more just that we’re not quite there yet.

@JustNik That is my point to. He starts by repeating outrageous things over an over until his mindless followers start believing Canadians want to be Americans and it justifies hus actions. Any dissent will be viewed as fake news or MSN that all hus followers on this site are magically parroting in mindless unison.

@JimboSaturn it is alarming. I hope his fans up there don’t manage to put you guys on the same train headed for the cliff that we seem to be on.

@JimboSaturn Canadians are good people, but I do not know why America would want Canada to be one of our states. It is kind of like when we are good friends with a neighbor, that doesn't mean we want to merge properties and lives.
@JustNik With his "Eating cats and dogs" statement, that along with the "your son goes to school a boy and comes home a girl" BS, he is basically talking like a six year old.
For international travel, hopefully it doesn't get outlawed. Eventually some of us would like to visit other nations.
Scary thing, didn't Hitler also want to take over several nations? We see how that went.
